Purdue Memorial Union Dedication
On April 28, Purdue University held a dedication for the Atlas Family Marketplace, the newly renovated ground level of Purdue Memorial Union (PMU). The Workshop team headed down south to see the historic event take place and reflect on the beautifully reimagined space, and the process to get there.
“I’m deeply grateful for all of the thoughtful extended discussions we’ve had over the last several years, as those have allowed us to transform a facility that has been an anchor on campus and imbue it with rich and nuanced layers of meaning. Some buildings scream loudly but have little to say. Thanks to you, the PMU is instead a sustained, deeply informed, and textured conversation across the generations of the Purdue family."
-Todd Wetzel, Assistant Vice Provost, Student Life, Purdue University
Workshop helped transform the historic but outdated Purdue Memorial Union into a vibrant social destination and focus of campus pride. Architectural changes at the ground level of PMU introduce new south-facing outdoor lounges and new dining venues mixed with study, lounge, and performance spaces. The interior design restores the original beauty of this historic building and makes the brand experience from the campus to the PMU more consistent. Beautifully crafted environmental graphics enhance identification and wayfinding and in telling the Purdue story. The overarching tone pays homage to the unbroken traditions of the University. With the PMU as the first impression of campus for prospective students, the theme invites them to discover more and become part of continuing the Boilermaker tradition.
We are honored that we get to be a part of the rich history that lives on this campus and look forward to continuing our journey together.
